30 Days of Giving at Plumb: Week 2

Written by Plumb | Nov 7, 2022 2:07:00 PM

As part of Plumb's first annual 30 Days of Giving, we are highlighting our superstar employees and the organizations they support. As we launch into the Holiday season, we want to recognize our Plumb team members for all the fantastic, important, and selfless work they do outside of the office.

One of the great parts of working at Plumb is that we foster a Community of Caring. We care about our clients, we care about our employees, and we all care about giving back to our communities.

Plumb prides itself on our incredible employees who give 110% at work, and who are also caring, generous, and thoughtful members of their communities - wherever those communities are across the globe.

Last week we wrote about Azar and her volunteer work with Rachel's House Women's Center of San Diego, and Amanda and her fundraising efforts for Cycle for Survival.

This week we are putting the spotlight on Laurie Westenberg, Nancy Nelson and Roxana Delgado and their respective causes of The Forest Park Conservancy, The Alzheimer's Association, and Care in Action.

Laurie Westenberg, who is a Controller at Plumb, supports The Forest Park Conservancy in Portland, Oregon.

Laurie shared: “Forest Park is a 5,000+ acre forest in the middle of the city with more than 81 miles of hiking trails.  It’s less than a mile from my house and I spend HOURS on the trails.  I have done a few volunteer activities with FPC over the years including physical trail work (racking and clearing brush) and scouting the trails for damage after big storms.  The last 2 summers I have been a Forest Park Ambassador.  I go out on an assigned stretch of trail and do usage counts, help hikers with trail directions and try to answer questions about the history and ecology of the park.  I LOVE it!

Thanks, Laurie for your incredible work in nature, and your incredible work at Plumb!

Nancy Nelson, Plumb's Controller and Head of HR, supports an organization that is very dear to her heart: the Alzheimer’s Association. Nancy tells us: "My dad had Alzheimer’s at the age of 60.  At the time I was 20 and it changed my life.  He was no longer the daddy I knew.  I saw my mom become such an incredibly strong woman.  Prior to my dad’s disease, he had done everything for my mom.  She had never changed a light bulb, did not know how to handle the finances, never had to take care of anything in the house or with the car.  She learned to do it all, and she did it with the most amazing grace.  She cared for my dad with tenderness and love, and with no complaints.

My grandma (dad’s mom) also had Alzheimer’s and I saw my grandpa model for my mom and me the care, compassion, and love for his spouse.  My mother-in-law currently has Alzheimer’s and my husband and I support her with the love and care as was modeled for me.

Roxana Delgado is one of our wonderful Client Relationship Managers. She shared with us her joy and passion for helping children in foster care. She explains: “I enjoy volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem for children in foster care, representing them in the court system, and suggesting services that will help them develop and grow in a more stable environment. Helping and protecting children is a passion of mine and I volunteer at local high schools to teach kids about budgeting, credit, and how to manage their personal finances. I also teach them about time management, organizational skills, and enjoy motivating them to grow and reach their potential."

She went on to share: "I think that if we can help influence children to have a different perspective and know that they can change even in a rough environment, giving others hope can make a huge difference in their lives. We can always help others feel better sometimes all it takes is reaching out, listening and a smile. We can all take advantage of our unique gifts and knowledge and help others.”
