Plumb is thrilled to kick-off our first annual 30 Days of Giving on November 1st. For the next month, we are going to highlight our superstar employees and the organizations they support. As we launch into the Holiday season, we want to recognize our Plumb team members for all the fantastic, important, and selfless work they do outside of the office.
One of the great parts of working at Plumb is that we foster a Community of Caring. We care about our clients, we care about our employees, and we all care about giving back to our communities.
Plumb prides itself on our incredible employees who give 110% at work, and who are also caring, generous, and thoughtful members of their communities - wherever those communities are across the globe.
Our first week we are highlighting two employees and their wonderful charities.
Azar Khojasteh, who works in our Family Office Accounting & Bill Pay Division, supports Rachel's House Women's Center of San Diego. She's been working with Rachels House since 2014, has built a relationship with the staff, and has made amazing connections with the women of the shelter. Azar said:
"Women who suffer from homelessness are already vulnerable on the streets, but giving them that safe place to clean and care for themselves is so important."
Rachel’s House offers services for women who are living on the street, or who may not have any resources or little to no income. They provide shelter for 35 women nightly, and give them dinner, replacement clothing, bathroom, shower, laundry facilities, their own bed, and breakfast in the morning.
Azar realized that Rachel's House struggled to provide a hot breakfast for their visitors, so she got to work, and with the help of her boyfriend, they cooked up a delicious, hot breakfast and delivered it to the women. Azar said they were simply overwhelmed, and so grateful and appreciative.
And we are grateful to Azar for being such a caring person - and a wonderful Plumb team member!
Amanda Laserson, who runs the Marketing for Plumb, supports Cycle for Survival. This is a national event that is held over various weekends from February – May and raises funds for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The energy and spirit of the day is breathtaking and inspiring. 100% of the proceeds go directly back to MSK’s rare cancer research within 6 months of the rides.
Amanda has been participating in this annual fundraiser for the past 7 years. She explained: “I participate in Cycle for Survival every year. I ride because MSK saved my life nearly 7 years ago, shortly after I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and Light Chain Deposition Disease. I underwent 16 rounds of chemo, followed by a stem cell transplant during which time I spent 17 days in the hospital. This was then followed by a 100-day period of isolation and recovery at my home. I promised that I would do anything I could to help others who were facing a similar, frightening diagnosis as soon as I was able to do so. I’m so incredibly grateful to MSK, and all my friends and family who have supported me along the way, and I’m even more grateful to be in complete remission (knock wood).”
